When you create your character, you choose one of three starter Mebulys: 새싹 of type
잎, 불씨 of type
불 or 이슬비 of type
물. All three evolve twice – at level 20 and at level 40 – and gain a second type in their final form.
The type triangle
The three form a classic triangle:
잎 attacks work well against
물,
물 attacks work well against
불 and
불 attacks work well against
잎. Against Mebulys of its own type, on the other hand, each starter achieves little. You find the full chart under Types and type chart.
The three compared
새싹 is an attacker: lots of attack power, but little defense. Its final form 우람목 is one of the hardest hitters in the game and has lots of health, but it is very slow. 새싹 is weak against
불,
비행 and
얼음. 우람목 is immune to
전기, but
비행 attacks hit it very hard.
불씨 has good attack values and the highest critical hit chance of the three. Its final form 불회오리 becomes very fast and strong in Ki attack (Ki is shown as “AI” in the game). 불씨 is weak against
물,
바위 and
땅. 불회오리 is immune to
땅, but
바위 attacks hit it very hard.
이슬비 is the sturdy one: high defense, but less attack power. 장대비 brings lots of health, and the final form 먹구름 is balanced and well protected. 이슬비 is weak against
잎 and
전기. 먹구름 is immune to
땅, but
전기 attacks hit it very hard.
What does this mean for the first masters?
The first master (마스터 니보리) relies mainly on Mebulys of type
비행: they hurt 새싹 badly, while 불씨 withstands them well. With the second master (코하나) everything revolves around
잎 – here 불씨 shines and 이슬비 has a hard time. The third master (마스터 나미) fights with
물: now 새싹 has the advantage and 불씨 the disadvantage.
Your choice is not final: you can get the other two starter Mebulys later in the shop as companions for gold (Mebulys in the shop). By the way, starter Mebulys and their evolutions cannot be released – they stay loyal to you.
