When you create your character, you choose one of three starter Mebulys: Spruitje of type
blad, Vlammie of type
vuur or Druppie of type
water. All three evolve twice – at level 20 and at level 40 – and gain a second type in their final form.
- Spruitje → Twijgje → Boomkolos (
blad and
aarde) - Vlammie → Vlamboyant → Vlamhoos (
vuur and
vlucht) - Druppie → Spetterus → Wolkolos (
water and
vlucht)
The type triangle
The three form a classic triangle:
blad attacks work well against
water,
water attacks work well against
vuur and
vuur attacks work well against
blad. Against Mebulys of its own type, on the other hand, each starter achieves little. You find the full chart under Types and type chart.
The three compared
Spruitje is an attacker: lots of attack power, but little defense. Its final form Boomkolos is one of the hardest hitters in the game and has lots of health, but it is very slow. Spruitje is weak against
vuur,
vlucht and
ijs. Boomkolos is immune to
elektrisch, but
vlucht attacks hit it very hard.
Vlammie has good attack values and the highest critical hit chance of the three. Its final form Vlamhoos becomes very fast and strong in Ki attack (Ki is shown as “AI” in the game). Vlammie is weak against
water,
steen and
aarde. Vlamhoos is immune to
aarde, but
steen attacks hit it very hard.
Druppie is the sturdy one: high defense, but less attack power. Spetterus brings lots of health, and the final form Wolkolos is balanced and well protected. Druppie is weak against
blad and
elektrisch. Wolkolos is immune to
aarde, but
elektrisch attacks hit it very hard.
What does this mean for the first masters?
The first master (Meester Nibori) relies mainly on Mebulys of type
vlucht: they hurt Spruitje badly, while Vlammie withstands them well. With the second master (Kohana) everything revolves around
blad – here Vlammie shines and Druppie has a hard time. The third master (Meester Nami) fights with
water: now Spruitje has the advantage and Vlammie the disadvantage.
Your choice is not final: you can get the other two starter Mebulys later in the shop as companions for gold (Mebulys in the shop). By the way, starter Mebulys and their evolutions cannot be released – they stay loyal to you.
