Starter Mebulys

When you create your character, you choose one of three starter Mebulys: Gemmino of type foglia, Favillo of type fuoco or Gocciolo of type acqua. All three evolve twice – at level 20 and at level 40 – and gain a second type in their final form.

• Gemmino → Fustello → Chiomone (foglia and terra)
• Favillo → Braciotto → Vampanado (fuoco and volo)
• Gocciolo → Gocciolus → Nembone (acqua and volo)

The type triangle

The three form a classic triangle: foglia attacks work well against acqua, acqua attacks work well against fuoco and fuoco attacks work well against foglia. Against Mebulys of its own type, on the other hand, each starter achieves little. You find the full chart under Types and type chart.

The three compared

Gemmino is an attacker: lots of attack power, but little defense. Its final form Chiomone is one of the hardest hitters in the game and has lots of health, but it is very slow. Gemmino is weak against fuoco, volo and ghiaccio. Chiomone is immune to elettrico, but volo attacks hit it very hard.

Favillo has good attack values and the highest critical hit chance of the three. Its final form Vampanado becomes very fast and strong in Ki attack (Ki is shown as “AI” in the game). Favillo is weak against acqua, roccia and terra. Vampanado is immune to terra, but roccia attacks hit it very hard.

Gocciolo is the sturdy one: high defense, but less attack power. Gocciolus brings lots of health, and the final form Nembone is balanced and well protected. Gocciolo is weak against foglia and elettrico. Nembone is immune to terra, but elettrico attacks hit it very hard.

What does this mean for the first masters?

The first master (Maestro Nibori) relies mainly on Mebulys of type volo: they hurt Gemmino badly, while Favillo withstands them well. With the second master (Kohana) everything revolves around foglia – here Favillo shines and Gocciolo has a hard time. The third master (Maestra Nami) fights with acqua: now Gemmino has the advantage and Favillo the disadvantage.

Your choice is not final: you can get the other two starter Mebulys later in the shop as companions for gold (Mebulys in the shop). By the way, starter Mebulys and their evolutions cannot be released – they stay loyal to you.
