Starter Mebulys

Leaf, fire or water: the three starter Mebulys compared – strengths, weaknesses, evolutions and tips for your choice.

When you create your character, you choose one of three starter Mebulys: Chipukizi of type jani, Mwaliki of type moto or Tonezi of type maji. All three evolve twice – at level 20 and at level 40 – and gain a second type in their final form.

The type triangle

The three form a classic triangle: jani attacks work well against maji, maji attacks work well against moto and moto attacks work well against jani. Against Mebulys of its own type, on the other hand, each starter achieves little. You find the full chart under Types and type chart.

The three compared

Chipukizi is an attacker: lots of attack power, but little defense. Its final form Mtikuu is one of the hardest hitters in the game and has lots of health, but it is very slow. Chipukizi is weak against moto, ndege and barafu. Mtikuu is immune to umeme, but ndege attacks hit it very hard.

Mwaliki has good attack values and the highest critical hit chance of the three. Its final form Motobunga becomes very fast and strong in Ki attack (Ki is shown as “AI” in the game). Mwaliki is weak against maji, mwamba and ardhi. Motobunga is immune to ardhi, but mwamba attacks hit it very hard.

Tonezi is the sturdy one: high defense, but less attack power. Nyunyuzi brings lots of health, and the final form Winguzi is balanced and well protected. Tonezi is weak against jani and umeme. Winguzi is immune to ardhi, but umeme attacks hit it very hard.

What does this mean for the first masters?

The first master (Mwalimu Nibori) relies mainly on Mebulys of type ndege: they hurt Chipukizi badly, while Mwaliki withstands them well. With the second master (Kohana) everything revolves around jani – here Mwaliki shines and Tonezi has a hard time. The third master (Mwalimu Nami) fights with maji: now Chipukizi has the advantage and Mwaliki the disadvantage.

Your choice is not final: you can get the other two starter Mebulys later in the shop as companions for gold (Mebulys in the shop). By the way, starter Mebulys and their evolutions cannot be released – they stay loyal to you.
