When you create your character, you choose one of three starter Mebulys: Sproutly of type
leaf, Flambini of type
fire or Drizzlet of type
water. All three evolve twice – at level 20 and at level 40 – and gain a second type in their final form.
- Sproutly → Saplion → Timberton (
leaf and
earth) - Flambini → Blazony → Charnado (
fire and
flight) - Drizzlet → Sprinkulus → Nimbostrat (
water and
flight)
The type triangle
The three form a classic triangle:
leaf attacks work well against
water,
water attacks work well against
fire and
fire attacks work well against
leaf. Against Mebulys of its own type, on the other hand, each starter achieves little. You find the full chart under Types and type chart.
The three compared
Sproutly is an attacker: lots of attack power, but little defense. Its final form Timberton is one of the hardest hitters in the game and has lots of health, but it is very slow. Sproutly is weak against
fire,
flight and
ice. Timberton is immune to
electric, but
flight attacks hit it very hard.
Flambini has good attack values and the highest critical hit chance of the three. Its final form Charnado becomes very fast and strong in Ki attack (Ki is shown as “AI” in the game). Flambini is weak against
water,
rock and
earth. Charnado is immune to
earth, but
rock attacks hit it very hard.
Drizzlet is the sturdy one: high defense, but less attack power. Sprinkulus brings lots of health, and the final form Nimbostrat is balanced and well protected. Drizzlet is weak against
leaf and
electric. Nimbostrat is immune to
earth, but
electric attacks hit it very hard.
What does this mean for the first masters?
The first master (Master Nibori) relies mainly on Mebulys of type
flight: they hurt Sproutly badly, while Flambini withstands them well. With the second master (Kohana) everything revolves around
leaf – here Flambini shines and Drizzlet has a hard time. The third master (Master Nami) fights with
water: now Sproutly has the advantage and Flambini the disadvantage.
Your choice is not final: you can get the other two starter Mebulys later in the shop as companions for gold (Mebulys in the shop). By the way, starter Mebulys and their evolutions cannot be released – they stay loyal to you.
